Installing Windows 10 from a usb3.0 flash drive onto an SSD is an amazing experience. Fastest OS install ever except possibly for DOS from a 1.44mb floppy when the OS itself was a little over 200kb.

Best part about Windows 10 is that Windows Update finally works properly with drivers. Just run through it a few times and drivers are pulled automatically.

Damn that sounds perfect, how long did it take? Under 20 mins?

Except that my network card isn’t properly getting a DHCP lease from the router and is refusing to work even with a static IP. I think the driver built into Windows is shit or something so I’m gonna try updating them from the CD so I can get a connection. This was supposed to be a quick and easy thing.... bleh

Luckily my company buys legit equipment so Installing 10 from usb on SSD is my norm. Every once and a while I will have one of our remote employees com in with one of the older PC’s (7/spinner hd)...So easy to forget what it was like!

I’m pretty sure that my younger brother installing Windows 3.1 on his Raspberry Pi was much faster than that, even.
don’t ask.

My company didn’t spring for real SSDs, but they did pay extra to get a small 16GB cache SSD (and then didn’t install the software so the machine would actually use it).

Hmm strange, I did like 3 laptops, my HTPC and my desktop, all pain free. Only exception was my tablet since its digitizer drivers from Asus were garbage and the updated audio driver didn’t work.

Turns out the built in drivers for the gigabyte NIC on the motherboard were garbage. Installing new ones from a flash drive fixed the issue but... c’mon Gigabyte.

Coincidentally I’m using a Gigabyte board too (G1.Sniper M3), with an Intel Gigabit NIC.

A few days ago I installed W10 from a usb3 drive onto a new M.2 NVMe SSD. Took about 6-7 minutes - I’m impressed (16gb of DDR4 @ 2400MHz and a 7700k probably helped too).
